Google Doodle takes a chunk out of carbon reserves

Did anyone notice Google’s doodle at the weekend? Yes it was the buckyball doodle, the one that whacked your CPU usage on the Task Manager up to 100% for no good reason.

In fact it’s not just your CPU usage that was being eaten up, according to blogger Gingerwarfare, it was the planet too! Apparently the buckyball doodle took up an extra 15-20 watts of power compared to other web pages he tested it against.

Now while 15-20 watts doesn’t sound like much, times that by a few million people who viewed the google homepage and you’re looking at a pretty massive energy consumption.

Google may try their hardest to be good to the environment with their rented goats eating up their lawns, but something like this kind of throws all that to the wind…
