The Latest Android platform usage stats have been released
from Google, and have revealed that the latest “Jelly Bean” OS (4.1-4.2)
overall usage has increased to 13.6%.
The “Gingerbread” version of android (OS
2.3-2.37) still has the majority usage share over all devices, at 45.6%. This
is a big leap for Jelly Bean as the overall usage has consistently increased
from 2.7% at the start of November, up to 6.7% in December and a gradual
increase as more devices are supported in addition to the sales of Google’s
flagship phone and tablets, the Nexus 4, 7 and 10.
This news is great for current Jelly Bean users as it gives
developers an incentive to make sure their apps are compatible with newer
versions of the Operating System. Currently some apps that users will have had
on their devices recently will not work with Jelly Bean as it does not natively
support flash, with HTML5 set to pave the way forward. For the full stats

Google is also set to show off its new OS 5.0, nicknamed “Key
Lime Pie” at Google I/O in May.
